15 Best East Coast, USA Destinations

Updated: Jan 19, 2022

The Eastern Coast of the USA has everything from jagged coastlines to metropolises. Here's my 15 favorite cities or places to visit along the East Coast.

For those of you that are new.. welcome to my blog! My name is Savanna Crowell and I'm a wanderer who likes to share travel tips and insights on my favorite destinations. 15 Best East Coast Destinations

1. New York City, New York

New York is a dream destination for many (it was for me), which is why it makes the top spot on my list. There's endless things to do, restaurants to try, clothing stores, iconic landmarks, and more!

The one downside for a trip to NYC, is it's expensive. Be prepared to spend at least $100/night on a hotel room and $50/day on food.

2. Washington, District of Columbia

Washington, DC is a must for everyone at one point in their life. Known for being the capitol of the USA, there is endless history! You can visit the White House, Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol Building, Smithsonian museums, etc!

One good thing about DC is unlike NYC, you can make your trip pretty cheap. All museums, landmarks, and parks in DC are free so you don't have to spend a dime on activities while you're there!

3. Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is a gem of the east coast. What I found most enticing about this city is its mix between history and modernism. The city itself has a very rich history dating back to the early days of the USA and the American Revolution-era. But what most people don't realize is that it also has a very large, built up downtown area with skyscrapers!

Make sure to book your accommodations in advance! It will be much cheaper and there isn't nearly as many options if you wait until the last minute (especially during summer months).

4. Acadia National Park, Maine

Acadia National Park is one of the best, in my opinion, national parks in the USA. It's very different from the others as it's actually on an island! The rocky coastline, and lush mountains will make you fall in love with this national park.

While you're visiting make sure to grab dinner inn Bar Harbor, Maine.

Must- See Spots in the Park:

-Thunder Hole

-Jordan Pond

-Sand Beach

-Cadillac Mountain (must purchase a separate ticket)

5. Miami, Florida

Miami is a favorite by those who love a combination of a big city and gorgeous beach. I would recommend staying on Miami Beach, so you are close to the beach but can easily take public transportation into the downtown area if you want!

6. Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

This is a hidden gem of USA National Parks! My favorite hikes in the park include: Stony Man Trailhead, Hawksbill Trail, Dark Hollow Falls.

7. Newport, Rhode Island

Newport is known for its history and beauty. It's a very quaint, small town on an island in Rhode Island. It's a beautiful destination and I recommend visiting in the summer!

8. Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is a beautiful city along the Atlantic Ocean. You can visit a beautiful courtyard restaurant, enjoy a sunset boat ride, or visit a rooftop bar!

9. Niagara Falls, New York

Niagara Falls is known worldwide and for good reason! There's hiking, attractions, and interactive exhibits along with the beauty of the waterfall. It's situated in between Canada (Toronto) and New York so there are viewing points on both sides.

10. White Mountains, New Hampshire

New Hampshire doesn't get the credit it deserves. You must visit these beautiful mountains during fall! This beautiful hike is Artists Bluffs Loop which is an easy 1.5 mile loop!

11. Everglades National Park, Florida

This unique national park is about 40 minutes from Miami and makes for a great day trip from the city. It's a must visit when in the city, but watch out for the alligators!

12. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Another great east coast city is Philadelphia. It holds amazing history and you can feel it while walking down the street. Some must see places include: The Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

13. Outer Banks, North Carolina

Known for the Netflix show, Outer Banks, it's even more beautiful than it appears. It's the perfect summer getaway and beach destination!

14. Savannah, Georgia

I like this city for more than its name... ;) It's a beautiful nature city! Here's a few of my favorite places in the city: Forsyth Park (pictured), Wormsloe Historic Site, waterfront, and take the trolley to visit all of the best sites!

15. Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Cape Cod is a staple of an East Coast summer. If you are looking for the perfect east coast beach getaway, look no further than Cape Cod!

In Conclusion,

These are just a few of the beautiful places on the East Coast. I hope I have inspired you to check out some of them for your next vacation! Until next time friends..keep exploring!! xxx, Savanna
