Airbnb Review: Urban Cottage Maryland

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

The coziest stay in the DMV. This unique Airbnb cottage is 15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC but has all the feels of a nature paradise. In this review you will learn what makes this tiny home the best there is in the DMV.

Thank you to Urban Cottage for hosting me. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

LOCATION

Urban Cottage is situated perfectly in the DMV. It's only 15 minutes east from the National Mall and US Capitol Building, 5 minutes north of the National Harbor, and 15 minutes north of Alexandria! The best way to reach the cottage would be by car - it's only about 30 minutes away from our home so we just drove up for the perfect weekend getaway. But, if you are planning to visit DC and looking for a place to stay, it's central location would be perfect for you as well as long as you have rented a car.

(You can find the location below- the blue pin on the map near MGM National Harbor)

THE INTERIOR

Urban Cottage is a 1 queen bed, 1 bath tiny home. The couch is pretty large and you could definitely use that as another bed if you have more people. The aesthetic and interior decor is gorgeous and gives you all of the cozy cottage vibes.

The Kitchen

The kitchen has everything one might need: microwave, fridge and freezer, full set of dishes and silverware, coffee pot, toaster oven, stovetop, handmade cutting boards, and more. Along with this the table has two chairs for sitting and even board and card games that make for the perfect late night game night! The ambiance is so dreamy and the owner, Masha, made it so special by adding fresh flowers for my stay!

The Living Room

The living room is so cozy you'll never want to leave!

Loft/ Bedroom

One of my favorite parts of the whole interior... the spacious loft! Climb up the ladder and you'll find the super comfortable queen bed, a small table with a lamp, and beautiful string lights! Another amazing addition is the small window. We slept with it open to let in some cool, fresh air during the night and it was so relaxing!

Bathroom

The bathroom is small, but perfect for what you will need it for. There's every kind of amenity you may need: towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. And the decor is adorable, of course.

Lounging Area

To the right of the living room you will find a comfortable chair, drawers, and TV. We didn't use any of these things during our time, but if you are spending more than a weekend here it would definitely come in handy! Also, in the living/lounging area you will find a historic, wood burning fireplace. Masha had it lit for our arrival and that's all we needed in order to stay warm during the night. It's such a unique addition to the cottage that I hadn't seen before!

Decor

The decor... OH the decor! Something so special about this place is that almost all of the decor in the home has a story attached to it. The dishes were made by a local artist and friend of Masha, the charcuterie board was made by a local artist, the painting was made by one of Masha's friend is so talented, and the lace/patchwork decor was made by Masha herself!

THE EXTERIOR
The Front

This is one of the most beautiful places I've stayed at both inside and out. Everything about this gorgeous cottage I fell in love with. I mean... how could you not?

The Back

If you didn't think it could get better, it does! The back of the cottage is just as magical as everything else. There's wooden picnic tables for enjoying meals or relaxing, there's an outdoor shower, and in the summer Masha has a beautiful garden! There's beautiful nature no matter what time of year and you can even see wildlife from the deck.

The Sauna

Last but certainly not least, the Russian Steam Bath! Right on the property to the left of the cottage, every guest is allowed to use this spacious sauna. Just ask Masha to turn it on and she will bring you robes and show you how to work the traditional Russian Steam Bath. She also provides you with essential oils, just put a few drops into the water, pour some water onto the coals, and sit back and relax. It makes for the absolute PERFECT wintertime activity.

LAST THOUGHTS...

Overall, I was blown away by this Airbnb. Even though it has 400 5 Star reviews, it still exceeded my expectations! What made this experience the best though is the owner, Masha. She was so professional, extremely accommodating, kind, and super fun to get to know! I would recommend this cozy cottage to anyone looking for a place to stay in the DMV. It's the perfect affordable, but luxurious stay (my favorite kind!).
